The avatar thing has thrown me off a bit too. I don't see why they can't just make the characters look more realistic.
For some of the younger or casual gamers, $50 a year might seem like a lot. These are just additional selling points for them.

Voice command for a game? That will probably work out just as well as speech to text programs...barely.
An XBLA title would not surprise me at all...In fact, I would say its about time.
Madden 09 might be half decent, but they definitely need some drastic improvements.
