They need to innovate the input devices, along with the outputs down the road (ie: google glass, augmented reality, etc).
A step in the right direction could entail using the dual shock/xbox controller along with the PS eye/Kinect/camera in order to track the user's eye or body movements.
As several of you have highlighted, there has been little to no innovation since the 6th generation, other than the gimmicky screen on the front.
