Eh I may get disagrees for this but the problem MGS4 came across was that it has built up so much unfinished plots from previous games. MGS4 had to end up going out of its way to fill in all the plot mysteries that the last 3 games had left behind. So we end up with a bunch of sub plots within the plot itself.
