I second that
One thing no one has talked about is that this time the virtual console needs to be more powerful. N64 and Gamecube/Wii emulators can take games and boost resolution, enable widescreen (even with the N64 games that didn't support it), add 16x anisotropic filtering and 16x anti-aliasing, so why shouldn't Nintendo's?
PS3 could have been "future proof" if they would have given it 1GB of system RAM. I think that was the biggest mistake. (If you don't understand why just forget it)
Well we still have Mistwalker Studios. Maybe his next project will be Lost Odyssey 2 (hopefully like Final Fantasy, it won't have anything to do with Lost Odyssey 1) Also the "HE" I'm refering to is the Original FF creator who left and started Mistwalker.
if it wasn't for the idiotic 256MB PS3 (or whatever chunk of 360's 512MB not being used by video) system ram, I would say the current could last longer, but I'm not the only one who wants larger, more dynamic, and more interactive environments. SO, I'm wanting next-gen.
Maybe the disagreed on the ONLY part...meaning they think Sony and Microsoft also need new consoles.
@EU
Yeah' I'm sure you're a programmer and understand exactly how Crytek wrote "Poor code" which ate up ram. Broader point is 256MB is Abysmal, which is why things constantly disappear in console games, and why they aren't very dynamic (destruction, among other things, is mostly scripted), and use small environments.
More ram doesn't result in sloppy code, well not as much as increased CPU speed. Still you need massive ram to load massive textures and dynamic, destructible environments. Also Dead bodies could stay longer, YAY!
PS3 used expensive ram to start. DDR3 can be faster (which is way fast enough) and it's dirt cheap. By 2013 or whenever 8GB will probably be $50.
Even with the Rumored specs, the GPU would be 3-5 times more powerful than the one in the PS3/360. The only thing that worries me is the RAM. 512MB??? 1GB DDR3 is $15. They seriously need at least 2GB. This Gen of consoles launched with much less ram than they should have.
I'm sick of people saying this. Up until the Wii they were ALWAYS about power. I guess Nintendo engraved that into young people's minds when the Wii launched. Nintendo has always had a more powerful machine then their main competitor. NES-N64..they tried with Gamecube. and N64 would have been beast if it had a CD-Rom
Agreed, The CPU sounds fine, but it needs at least 2GB system ram (preferably 4GB, which is still cheap) and since they're sticking with ATi. At least a 6870 with 2GB ram, by the time it launches that will be cheap for an OEM also.
Where to start on this...oh well.
Well yeah, it'll be outdated by the time we get PS4 and Xbox next. Still, if it does have someting like an HD4870 and a new powerful IBM, it should play the PC Crysis Very High at 720p, plus more physics...that is if they don't only go with 512MB or ram. I really hope that's wrong. 4GB is so cheap nowaddays and games would benefit greatly. As for rehash...I agree, BUT it's not rehashing for the new generation of kids...which is what nintendos are for
WRONG, they were actually always about power. Up to the Gamecube, which for its time was very powerful. If you were older you'd know that. NES was more powerful than the Master Drive, the SNES was significantly more powerful than the Genesis. If the N64 had a CD drive, it would have blown PS1 away. They just realized they could repackage the gamecube with a silly remote and sell like crazy.
Not as hell..I've had a few encounters, but whatever. I don't see why it's such a big deal that sometimes they make it a little easy on you cause they're staring at a wall.
Forget graphics, this is why I want new consoles..extended RAM and CPU speed. For destruction and interactivity. That's what makes Crysis so fun, and games like Just Cause 2. They need to expand on that stuff and add it to all games...but they need more power
PC's are 3 PC generations ahead of consoles, up to 25x more powerful (on the Graphics Processor side)
Yup, don't know if you agree but on a somewhat related note. I HATE how people are more offended by a naked body than violence...but this will probably never change. I'm raising my kids with boobies and westerns, kinda how I was raised.
