"You do realize you can make more profit by not selling consoles, right?"
The 4.6b they made was by selling games on their marketplace, which exists on their console. You're putting the cart before the horse.
Without the console to give people a place to buy things that 4.6 billion wouldn't even exist. That's the whole point of the console. They can't make any profit without the console except...
It's not about the IP for me at all, and I have played Larians Divinity games as well as both Pathfinder games.
And in my opinion, the Pathfinder games are better and more complete. Things like character creation and leveling the fact there is more depth to the gameplay, especially when you look at the Kingdom management and Crusade mechanics, as well as its recreation of the table-top experience.
And as for the writing, there is so much more goin...
If you want, I can list around a dozen other games that xbox sold less than 20% of copies... This isn't a new thing, for the last 8-10 months every month has shown the same pattern across multiple games.
I think we're kind of beyond the point of arguing if Game Pass is cutting into traditional sales in a big way.
People just get excited for this because of the name. But what they have shown so far is so much less impressive than Pathfinder which is also a licensed D&D property. And the fact that both Pathfinder games were kickstarted and came out successful with excellent post game support really puts what Larian is doing to shame and makes the whole Baulder's Gate 3 situation seem like a cash grab when you look at how long it has taken them what they have produced and their plans to GaaS up...
I replied to the wrong person, but I was making reference to this comment.
"this could be set to rival the Last of Us II in production quality"
My point is people always say everything Microsoft does is going to be "the best thing ever", but it almost always turns out more like Crackdown 3. Where they talked up "power of the cloud" for years, then release one of the worst games from ...
You think that even after Bethesda said they were no longer working on PlayStation versions of games...
"I think" your judgement of the gaming industry is poor.
Microsoft wants to sell Game Pass that's it. Microsoft is a trillion-dollar company they don't care if xbox makes money, PC is going to offset any losses, even 7.5 billion dollar ones. The only thing Microsoft cares about is market share. Microsoft will burn a billion dollar...
You actually still think Microsoft is going to release Bethesda games on PlayStation?
After Phil said they weren't, and development of PlayStation versions has been scrapped, with Bethesda saying only having to focus on one platform would improve development...
"Next on the new releases is Alan Wake Remastered at No.5. The original game was an Xbox 360 exclusive, so this is the first time the title has been on PlayStation platforms. And it seems to have paid off. 63% of the game's sales were on PS5, 21% on PS4 and 17% on Xbox consoles. The firm said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that it hoped Alan Wake would find a new audience on Sony's consoles, and the early evidence suggests that it may have succeeded."
There isn't a big numbers difference if you look at the fact that the majority of the sales are on PS5.
Keep in mind PS5 is outselling both xbox sx and xbox one combined. There are actually more xbox than PS5's in that calculation. Look at Allan Wake 63% of sales were on PS5 while only 17% of sales were on both generations of xbox.
Those are just the studio heads, also nearly every person Microsoft poached from Sony has gone back to Sony.
No matter how you spin it, there has been a sizable exodus from the studios Microsoft is running. The fact that The Initiative needs Crystal Dynamics and not an internal studio to make the game for them pretty much says all that needs to be said about what's going on at Microsoft right now.
Both Far Cry and Alan Wake were totally dominated by PlayStation platforms.
Notably for Alan Wake, 63% of the game's sales were on PS5, 21% on PS4 and 17% on Xbox consoles, as well as Far Cry were over 70% of sales were on PlayStation.
Guess people are waiting for them to go on Game Pass instead of supporting the studios.
