I heard it was related to the ruins with the Nordic language on them and you need to travel to every realm in certain order and also something with the horns in the valkyries chambers but this is all speculation
The side quests especially those with the dwarves are very well done,add layers to the story and have nice upgrade rewarding
In my final stages with "give me god of war" (second playthrough)
