I believe MS was not expecting 360 to sell like is selling, instead of 5 years cycle now its gonna be 8/9 years cycle for 360 and that is something MS didn't know in 2005.
Sony choose and well the Blu ray cuz they plan 10 or more years for the ps3.
MS don't force you to buy a 360, you just buy cuz you want.....
Anyway GT2 had 2discs and Sony didn't look worried about..
