I thinks there's even a bigger gap in the animations than in graphics, when Alan Wakes runs he lifts his knees so high that it looks like a robot, UC2 animations are PERFECT
few people actually played both Farenheit and Heavy Rain but I did, and while there's elements re used on Heavy Rain the game is very different
Farenheit is more like the old Resident Evil/Silent Hill games but focusing on the puzzles more than the action, you were very much in control of what was happening, on Heavy Rain you interact with the events that might even move forward even if you don't do anything

Heavy Rain has many elements seen before in other games but in a new combination and made it successful, so yeah, it's a new genre, just like Little Big Planet, it doesn't have to be 100% new and original to be called a genre, it can incorporate previous existing elements in an original way
