and no, social gaming (i.e farmville) and such is not going to take over consoles. There will always be a market for games like CoD, Uncharted, Halo, Mario, Zelda, etc.

Im just going to say it how i see it, this feels VERY familiar to how people were saying the DS vs PSP was going to handle and we all know what happened there.
Obviously there are some huge differences this time.
1. The main consumers of handhelds (kids) seem to be obsessed with apple and apps. The market might not be there for either handheld. It will be interesting to see how 3DS and Vita fares in the next few years.

pikmin was the last IP that anyone cared about that came out of nintendo. I know they released a game with a wiimote last year that was a new ip but nobody bought it.
the price drop was needed though. Not enough sales + vita the same price would have been bad for nintendo.
Actually most of the games are actually pretty good.
Plus at least we are getting something, name any other company that would give out free stuff to the people who bought it at a higher price.

considering mario kart is the best selling wii game next to wii sports and one of the best selling DS games, yes mario kart is a huge system seller.
