That's correct. The creative director of the Yakuza series developed this. You can kinda feel it a bit while playing. Certain small touches remind me of it.

Make sure to climb the ladder behind the fog gate and do a drop down attack on his head. Does a ton of damage. Coating your weapon in Gold Pine Resin helps too. He's weak against lightning attacks.
