I promise that this isn't a mid generation thing, this is the new console cycle. They are turning their console into a closed PC and I am okay with that, I love it.
Also it really isn't all that BC as people want to play it, they are just prepping for their future. PS4 to PS4 Pro, no need to buy new games. XB360 to XB1 to XB1 Scorpio no need to buy new games.
