That is a fallacy. There was never a point where marketing was split evenly between men and women. Of course women weren't interested in tech fields early on...have you seen some of the ads used back in the 70's and 80's?

It is clear from early on that tech was marketed exclusively to men and the defense that "women weren't interested, that's why there is only men." is not accurate.

So your argument is that because men can be physically abused, women have no problems whatsoever?

You are reducing it to an absurd degree. You say things like the following:

"Who is called upon to make the take the most dangerous, thankless, life threatening jobs? Men. Not women because their lives are more valuable than men.

Who can be drafted? Men. Women can't be drafted."

Who created those policies? Men. W...

Well, only one more comment here, so I might as well make it count.

See the problem with everyone here who has responded negatively is this: Anita, myself, nor anyone else can MAKE you want to care about these problems. You have your male privilege where you have no idea any of the hardships that come with being a woman. You don't. You can argue it all you want, and say it doesn't exist. Doesn't matter, it is still there and is still a problem.

"That is very true. It's like, how are we supposed to defend our hobby from these many attackers when they throw curve balls at us from every direction? Video games get blamed for violence, for misogyny, and for causing illness (and I am not joking on that one). The list gets more ridiculous as the months go on."

She's not blaming video games for misogyny, simply stating that video games are mirroring modern societies built in misogyny.

Fairly certain she closed the comments on youtube because:

1. You will find no greater hive of scum and villainy then the youtube comment sections.

and

2. Probably didn't feel like getting a bunch of threats of rape/murder/hate.

Just a thought.

Well, worry not. I shall keep my integrity intact and not own any such device.

I guess for me I'd rather walk away then use a device that makes my skin crawl.

I apologize. I may have gotten a bit ahead of myself. But I'm sure it won't be long until it happens.

Correction:

EA buys some mighty fine developers, and milks their talent long enough to make a quick buck then fires their asses.

I somehow get the feeling that a lot of the EA apologists are younger gamers. Cause if you played games in the 90's, you remember EA before the dark times. And you bore witness to franchise after franchise being bought out by EA, then destroyed before your very eyes so they could make money off of the name they bought.

Look, I can think of no better quote from Star Wars itself to sum up this situation.

"We're doomed."

4750d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

What? You mean to say that walking all over your customers will cause your company to lose money? How crazy!

4750d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Maybe some of you EA apologists are younger, so you don't fully understand the history of EA.

As an older gamer, I can only watch them destroy franchise after franchise that I love for so long before losing all hope and trust in them as a company.

I wrote an article about it, and pretty much listed why it is awful that EA won exclusive rights to Disney.

I never got to play Infamous (no PS3 for me) but yeah, that is absolutely what I'm talking about. I think it's just something that most gamers don't spend a lot of thought on. I mean, seriously, if you in real life kill one person you are a murderer. Some of the games I've played I would say my body count puts me on par with genocide.

I actually completely agree with you that violence was implicitly part of Bioshock. But I feel that while the original one was so good in part because of the violence and how it was perpetuated, in Bioshock Infinite it wasn't as necessary for the plot. Just because the first game had it, doesn't mean the subsequent sequels need it as well.

lol...I can't believe they are still talking about DnD like that.

My response to that though is that why is any of their opinions less valid? There are plenty of guy youtube reviewers that are crap out there, but most people don't care or ignore them. Whereas when a girl does it, she immediately comes under intense scrutiny and inspection.
