I think we will be pleasantly surprised by this Silicon Knights baby. They deserve an A+ for keeping at it under tremendous pressure.

According to official numbers release in their annual reports:
X360 shipped: 19 mil through Mar 08
PS3 shipped : 12.81 mil through Mar 08

these are global shipment numbers from the time each system was release to market.

Certainly there is a possibility that the PS3 completely catch up to 360 by Mar 09. I did mention in my previous post this case. It is my belief, however, that at the current pace of sales (seeing that even GTAIV only moved around 300,000 additional PS3 and around 200,000 360 during the two weeks since launch), it would be a challenge for PS3 to make such big gain this year.

MGS4 will be a system mover for Sony no question. Is it going to move more systems than mighty GTAIV?...

This is premature speculations at best! Bioware have just finished Mass Effect holiday 2007. They have but about 5 months to work on Mass Effect 2, if indeed they had already started on that. A sequel of ME caliber will take a minimum 18 months to finish, 24 months more reasonable. So at this point there is not thing that can be shown to the public, at there is no need to start the hype about it when there is nothing to be shown.

Sony fiscal year ends in March, so this means 9.24 millions PS3 shipped globally from April 07 to March 08. Since Feb 08, the PS3 has had a sales margin of between 150,000 - 200,000 units over the 360. Assuming that this pace continue and Microsoft unable to narrow or regain the sales advantage, we would see PS3 close the install base gap with 360 by 2-3 millions units (200,000 units/months * 12) by March 09.

Currently, the 360 still hold a lead of slightly above 6 millions sy...

I don't think this is going to be a FF killer since these are two very different RPGs

Wonderful! This game is getting to be the size of Oblivion! I would be happy if it was going to five time the original, but 20+ times? And the graphics keeps looking better and better everytime I see it.

BK will probably still be a platformer first with abundance vehicles gameplay. All those rumors about Rare in charge of developing first motion control games for the 360 are looing awfully real now.

Does someone else see what I am seeing? The balancing beam and abundance of vehicle gameplay is well suited for a motion controller. Does this mean that all those rumors are true?

What else to explain the darker style of the graphics? Personally I prefer the more lively look of VP1. If I own a 360, VP1 will be one of the first game I will pick up, since this looks like something original and fun.

Maybe we can conclude that it's a given that BK will support the new motion controller seeing the prominent display of vehicle gameplay in the screen shoots.

Many Rare people are now or has been called upon to be part of R&D for Microsoft Games. This naturally had taken a big draw from their core game teams that was not that big compared to teams size of current standard. Just look at how many people Bungie put on Halo alone or how many people SquareEnix put on Final Fantasy for PS3! No doubt Rare has been beefing up their staff and are making a come back!

Well respected developers freely admit that they "steal" a little bit here and there from others while trying to add their own innovation. There is no shame in that. So it is okay for BK to borrow a bit of style from RC or for LBP to look like BK.

But for two games to look similar in style does not necessary mean the two studios copy from one another. Two groups of artists can independently come up with similar art styles well before knowing that some other groups...

Of course a lot can go wrong with development of any sequel, but two years of development should not be a concern for Gears 2. Also keep in mind that much of the planning for Gears 2 were done while Epic developed Gears 1. And in the final months of finishing up Gears 1, Epic engine team kept adding new tech to the engine for their licensees. So in effect, the technology and the planning for Gears 2 started more than two years ago.

Epic has a separate engine team so new te...

Perhaps the data samples for Mass Effect were bad? Or maybe as Round Peg pointed out, the estimate did not include big broken streetdate sales. Or... maybe it was a combination of both reasons. Whatever the case, the number posted for ME was under actual figure by quite a large margin.

Even the best estimation methods can yield results that are far off if the sample data happen to be off during that period. Just look at estimates figures for American petroleum consumptions....

shmee - I think you misunderstood my point. The numbers released by VG are just estimates, approximation based small samples of data and then scale up. So compare this to actual numbers from Les Echos as you pointed out will yield different result. The title of this post accused VG for intentionally inflating the number to which I say is an unfair accusation. Estimates are meant to have error in it. People with background in mathematical statistic would tell you this. VG is just repor...

PS3 gamers finally have reason to cheer. After suffering dozens upon dozen of subpar ports from 360, DMC4 shows that ports, no matter which direction, 360-PS3 or PS3-360, tends to suffer in quality comparing to the lead development platform.

NPD get their numbers from retailers. VG also get numbers from retailers but on a smaller scale. Statistical methods are used to upscale the samples, so there will be deviations from actual numbers. Some months VG will over estimate and some they will under estimate. And with luck, some months they will be almost exact. The people behind VG site had said that their numbers is meant to gauge how well a title or console is doing and not meant to be used as exact sales numbers.

With MS marketing strenght, it would be a good thing for Visual Concept. VC sport games are on par if not better than EA in many cases, but never enjoyed the same level of sales as EA's titles. Take Two was not strong enough to help VC compete with EA. MS can help the flourish.
