I'm with you on this iTZKooPA. Not sure what shoinan means by saying it was "a little overrated". For me, it was the game I can pickup and enjoy at anytime, either solo or on Live. Could there have been improvements? Sure, as with practically any game.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the article. Well done Mr. Whitelaw and TGR!
According to an arcade manager I spoke with the other day, the PS3 version of Tekken 6 is going to replace their stand-ups of Tekken 5 in the arcade. He didn't know if they'd offer online play with it.
If you have an appointment or job to go to in an hour or so, DON'T START PLAYING Borderlands!! You'll miss your appointment, it's that addictive.
After playing the Xbox version, I went out and bought the PC version so I could run it on my laptop when away from home. The article author is right on regarding the PC version, but I still get plenty of enjoyment out of it. Just have to make sure the alarm is set so I get something else done!
There are buttons for praising and playing with your dog in Fable II. I felt that really added to the fun and immersion too!
Good article. However, your statement about the Olympics being apolitical is naive IMO. While that may be the intent, in practice it is far from it. But I get your point regarding your views on games. I do believe there will be some bias in any game towards one viewpoint or another, but a game created to push a political viewpoint will typically have rather limited appeal.
Peace out!
It's a game, why make it so complicated about learning the controls? Either make the controls intuitive or have the option to run through a couple levels with an HUD on what to do. Besides, with all the walkthrough and cheat sites out there, who needs a manual/tutorial anyway? WE don't need no stinkin' manual! Ptooi!
Well, as your example of Tiger Woods shows, it's not obvious as to whether it was intentional or not. Many glitches are obvious, but ones like the waving MOB in Fallout 3 are not.
I doubt there's a game released that doesn't have at least one glitch to be found. So how do you distinguish between a glitch and an Easter Egg? That's not always easy.
BTW, didn't know about the Batman: Arkham Asylum one. That's got to become a classic!
Starcraft is a great game, of that there is no doubt. However, one has to wonder how well a sequel will be compared to the original. Example Everquest 2... it never really reached the same level of popularity as the original, many actually quitting it and going back to the original or WoW (sometimes both). This in spite of all the graphic goodness, new engine and game mechanics in the new version.
Fembot zerg attack in DotA!!! For the Win?
Wow! This drop along with the recent PS3 one makes console gaming pretty attractive for the season. I wonder how this will affect developer platform choices for next year.
Nice article. I agree on the art style, disagree on the turn based. I'm still a board gamer, so pretty used to that type of game.
