The HUD is very minimalized. If I'm not mistakened you only see a little (translucent) icon to tell you what is the weapon you currently ahve equiped and it probably also tells you how much ammo you have left.
The health meter is just the screen getting 'desaturated' when your getting hit. Similar to other games, you just need to stay off enemy fire for a while to 're-gain' your health back.

When it cut to ingame action for the first time I just stood there waiting for the cutscene to continue. After a few seconds I moved the left analog stick just incase and to my surprise Ratchet moved.
Thats when I realized that I was no longer watching the cutscene, but playing the demo.

As for the PES 2008 demo, according to WENB blog, Konami/Sony chose not to put the demo on the PSN because the one on XBL was plagued with bugs (added to the fact that it was a months old build of the game), and that is never good for advertising ;)

When PES 2008 hits I will have no mroe reasons to use the BC on my 60GB, cause PES 6 was the only PS2 game I still played on my PS3.
Its a great feature to have because you know whenever you feel like you can pop in a PS2 game and play it, but apart from that, its not really an essential feature IMO.
I enjoyed it mroe because my PS2 brok just before I got my PS3.
