PS1-PS2 controllers didn't have any sort of triggers (PS3 either, R2 and L2 are not triggers) and they did just fine. Yeah, Shoulder buttons might be necessary but these are not triggers.
When did Assassin's Creed NEED triggers? Did GTA need triggers on the PS2? Red Dead Redemption? really? Vanquish doesn't...
