1) Rico was an ass for a reason,this is the guy who shows you the supposed good guys aren't good afterall.
2) The Helghast underdog bit back. So many times are we used to playing the heroic guy who stomps all the unclean alien scum in the name of righteous humanity. Whereas the ISA could have been seen as "winning the war" we all saw how badly they got mauled in the fight. The "bad guys" won. A plan does not survive contact with the enemy.

The only reason you think "Assassin" is because of playing Assassins Creed.nothing really screams that he's a killer because of that outfit. Plus the outfit is dated compared to the style of the time by a few hundred years,nobody could really assume he has ties to a few hundred years dead killing organisation because of it.
There art style is a Sci-Fi spin with coloured bullets and elaborate weaponry,I guess you like those games because of the less serious "twitchy run'N'gun" gameplay that you can just jump into.
Killzone is more of a serious shooter in the way they went about it,sure it's full of Hollywood cliches and stereotypically looking bad-guys but the way it was put together is perfect,if you put all favouritism aside and let the game stand on its own merits with what the developers aimed...
The wrong person can pick up an amazing game and just make it look so bland and boring.
Almost as bad as Resistance 2's.
Bioshock then Uncharted for console games IMO.
