They shoulda had raiden suddenly become a washed out bum, then snake helps him get back into the game, then we have a suicidal raiden confronting a dying snake. And also make raiden all grungy and have stubby beard etc.. like he's a real washed out ninja, this would give the opportunity to give raiden more masculinity and anger and agression which his image needs.
