it can affect anything but the disc format of the game. going HD-DVD games especially now would just cause the 14 million of already 360 owners to wonder why Microsoft would do such a thing.
For Sony, from the beginning used blu-ray disc format for games which mean every system will be able to stick to that format. as far as playstation 3 games goes, it's down to Hard Drive space which isn't much to worry about since, you know, they can update it themselves.

From the specs I read about the "Ultimate" 360, I highly doubt if true, will alienate the current 360 owners. Microsoft's goal when it came down to the games always made it their priority to use the model with the same specs when compared to the others. so even if Ultimate comes out, I seriously think it won't mean much.

You can capture the monsters you fought in battle and they'll aide you in some way.

Imagine if one of their AAA Titles or ALL goes HD-DVD format. what will the folks with the regular 360 that isn't the new one? They go out and BUY that system to just play it? This won't affect games all. it's only going after Sony with their media feature[s] of the ps3.
