I think this reinforces my theory for the next generation system. Fusion between handheld and console. You'll be able to use this and the gamepad as controllers, so they can focus on increasing the hardware at a low price point.
I wonder if Nintendo leaked the Mario Kart 8 dlc stuff today to try to take attention away from this leak. Seems oddly suspicious it was so close together. Or, it could just be they're doing the update for tomorrow...

That's past the point of no return. Short term gains, sure. Long term, definitely no. I don't think nintendo would make a very good 3rd party anyway.
Actually, I think they're about the same (sales wise). However, Just Dance is cheaper to make, so they go with that.

I think the issue is that Nintendo's audience and the other systems' audience are different. 3rd parties would have to cater to Nintendo's audience in order to get sales (which is a huge risk and costs a lot of money).
Given what they have to work with, I think Nintendo's on the right track for the short term (buy games, or lend out franchises - like Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors).
