As long as the story isn't sacrificed then yeah it would be cool, but generally the more open world you get the less linear of a story you can have, and the best storylines are at least somewhat linear.
I play Bioware games for story, and more recently fun combat, not for hours and hours into an open world experience. You loose a lot of great story moments when you go full open world.
