Yeah, this is a terrible article. PSN is an exception to the status quo. Steam, Direct2Drive, XBLA and others have been doing just fine.
The author seems to have some crazy hollywood idea of what a hacker can do. With these magical cyber wizards hacking into PSN's mainframe and maliciously changing the source code of our favorite downloadable games!!!! OH NOES!!!

Like I said, I don't think this beta is going to change anyone's opinions on the franchise. So if you're not really a fan of the first two games, you will likely be underwhelmed with this one. Or at least the multiplayer that has been released into beta so far.
I'm hoping that they put Beast mode out before the Beta is over. I have a feeling that it will be the defining change in multiplayer for Gears 3.

Online connectivity is something I think a lot of younger games take for granted though :)
Actually, onboard storage like HDD are what I discuss in the article. Memory cards are more of a response to the innovation of the disc based media ;)
Great point about comparing violence in games to violence in movies.
I think you really need to hit a good balance of plot, action and style when it comes to games. LA Noire had a lot of plot and style, but in my opinion the repetitive nature of the gameplay will keep it from being a game of the year contender.
Where as all the hundreds of generic action games I've played have slipped so far from my mind that I can't think of a good example. Often t...
