Not quite but very close. There are some very telling signs that games are still below current CGI standards. But that's kinda an unfair comparison.

Games that follow the norm and don't do anything new for gaming yet are touted as the best of the best of all space and time ruin the industry. Because there wasn't a single new concept in the Last of Us, and the concepts it utilized weren't particularly mastered as well. The splinter cell/mgs stealth mechanics weren't very good especially considering that the A.I. is as dumb as a brick and can't see your allies., (despite the FALSE advertising that the A.I. was revolution...
AC4 does have weaker combat from AC3, but I have no idea why you would consider things like "different currents make you lose ships" fun. They stated that they were going for FUN with the ship combat as opposed to realism. And that's exactly what they accomplished.

I'd totally believe this if Western games weren't winning all the awards for the past few years. Or if the Last of Us didn't have the most awards of any game ever while games like Ni No Kuni were swept under the rug and don't sell as good here at all.

You do realize that fable type games are not the only kinds of games that you can make right? Educate yourself and watch the trailer, where they showcase the sheer amount of games you can make, like galaga and limbo inspired ones. -_-
