Possibly, but it would have been way way to risky for MS. They weren't in a position to recover if HDDVD failed. At least Sony already had the VG market locked up at the time.

For the moment I only own a Wii, and so far its been lackluster, at least for my gaming tastes. (my mom loves it though).
So as I look into the console war and think, "Hmm... what will my second cosole be, 360 or PS3??" My answer comes from not only weighing the games/hardware/cost ratios, but also WHAT DO MY FRIENDS HAVE??
As of now, I only know ONE person who owns a PS3. All of my other friends have a 360. So the descision is pretty easy for me...
I love posts like this... twisting the facts to make the 360 look like it has a smaller, inferior game library. What reality do you live in? The facts as they are now; the 360 has more games, the 360 has more games with higher reviews than any of the competition. Those are the facts. No lies. And yet you say everyone buys the 360 for one game. Please explain as you make no F'n sense.
Jeez people, don't you realize the PC always is comparatively weaker earlier in the console life cycle?
As time goes the PC becomes more impressive do to the fact that it constantly evolves month by month, rather than 5+ year jumps like consoles.
So yeah DX10 is ho-hum now, in a couple years the PC will have stuff that will blow even the PS3 away.
Even if this +15k over Transformers is true (which I think is highly suspect) then Blu-ray domination this does not make. (sorry for yoda talk)
But really, Blu-ray supporters claim that the war is over, but with numbers like this its impossible to say. Honestly I see HDDVD gaining strength (market share) over time rather than weakening.
Why not? Waiting is what PS3 owners do best.

I don't get it. I own a Wii, and I am about to Ebay it. I want to like it, but its starting to collect dust. It's just a glorified Gamecube. The games are Meh. The system is Meh. But it sells like hotcakes.
I bought it because of the initial media buzz, and my curiousity, but I'm sorry, the controller doesn't excite me - at all. It seems I'm in the minority.

This video comparison is a joke.. first off they aren't even in sync.. they look at completely different areas in the video.
The next stupid thing they do is focus on cut scenes, I mean.. watching that plot spoiler while the camera focusing in on that low rez in-game TV was brilliant. Gimme a break!

I havn't own a console since the original Nintendo system. I bought in to some of the Wii hype, and with a bit of added curiosity, decided to buy a Wii.
Its pretty lame really. Blah graphics.. I mean, very meh. HD should be a REQUIREMENT for gaming system for today. I could care less about the motion controller. It is fun for a few games, but doesn't make for a great gaming platform.
