I, too, have been told that XBL has better servers. When I disagreed, he said "I played Killzone 2 on my mate's PS3 once and was lagging everywhere."

He wouldn't hear it when I told him that one, Killzone 2 never lags, it must have been his mate and two, XBL is all P2P, thus is worse.
