That's the thing though, I did like it, but it's technical flaws have dated the game to such a degree that this re-release won't improve on that or satisfy new fans who came in by playing 2 and 3.

I'll agree with you, if only because when I read articles about gaming that I can't really follow I get irritated and think, "why the hell is this Ivy Leaguer trying to overcomplicate things?"
All the same though, I feel like games are totally worthy of film-critic level analysis, and so I try to approach every game I talk about with the same level of artistic potential and respect. So basically, I sympathize with your point, but I'm in no hurry to change :) Than...
@frelyler HD remakes don't change the way the game looks, they just update the textures, aliasing, and framerate so that the games don't look blurry and dated on HDTVs, that's all I want, and all I think a re-release needs.
