Contrast that with Hello Games after the backlash they received from No Man's Sky's launch. They didn't antagonize the consumers. They kept their mouths shut, hunkered down, and slowly, but surely fixed the game and added new content.
@Obscure
You do know Sony releases their 1st party games on Steam a few years after their original release, right? This is vastly different from a simultaneous launch. Had Microsoft released the PC version 2-3 years after the Xbox Series release, the player count would be much lower.
You also clearly never made it to pre-calc since you think taking the amplitude of a sinusoidal wave is the actual player count. And if you want to use Steam Charts or SteamD...

First, Microsoft stopped reporting sold-to-consumer numbers. Then, it stopped reporting shipment numbers. Eventually, Microsoft even stopped reporting monthly active users numbers. The constant goalpost moving is dead giveaway that whatever efforts Microsoft has put into boosting engagement numbers aren't working.
It's what Microsoft doesn't say that speaks the loudest...
@Obscure
"Oh almost forgot; since you said that that Xbox gamers are used to mediocrity, how does it feel having TWO Xbox first party games among PS5´s Top 10 most played games!?"
Imagine being this incompetent that you inadvertently make a strong case that the Xbox is not a console brand anymore and is more of a 3rd party publisher brand...
@Obscure
Getting outperformed by an over a decade old game is "not bad"? If Starfield can't stand on its own merits, then it's not a good game. Period.
Those... aren't good numbers.
That actually makes Xbox look worse. So even with this supposed greater "profit", the Xbox brand is still doing far worse than Playstation. You're basically arguing that Microsoft is an extremely inefficient spender.
People forget that before he became head of Xbox, Phil was the head of 1st party studios. The 360's first party offerings post-Kinect were not as good as they were pre-Kinect.
"What is causing the Xbox to be down"
Not having compelling software this year (no, Starfield is not compelling sorry) and PC getting Day 1 treatment with Xbox consoles.
Xbox down 11% from the Xbox One is non-hyperbolically disastrous. The Xbox One announcement was a PR disaster and Microsoft lost a lot of goodwill from the consumers. Not to mention, you couldn't buy the standalone console without the Kinect until June 2014. Even then, despi...
@Obscure
And yet, Starfield couldn't beat the poorly done Metal Gear Solid collection in September. Not to mention, the average Steam review score keeps dropping and concurrent player count dropped below Skyrim's. It's a tale of coming out of the gate in a full sprint and immediately running out of gas.
Also, mind if you share how Forza is doing? For someone who's extremely invested on the Xbox, it's rather suspicious you don't tal...
Raw power-wise, I doubt the Switch 2 will be as powerful as the Series S due to form factor and limited power draw. But because it can use DLSS 3.5, which is really good and can further improve by next year, the Switch 2 should provide close to Series S-like performance and image quality. So yeah, the Xbox console is in a huge bind:
1. Series X customers bought the console b/c it is the most powerful console. But if the PS5 Pro comes into the picture, it can siphon off that...
Supposedly, the Xbox Series has been selling poorly this year that the Switch (on its 7th year) is selling over twice as much. If that's the case, then the Xbox Series already peaked in its 2nd year when ideally, you'd want it to peak in the 3rd or 4th year. Not to mention, 75% of the Series sales are the budget S variant. If Sony launches the PS5 Pro next year, what do you think will happen to the 25% of the userbase that have the Series X?
TL;DR version - It's...
And what Rowling said wasn't even bad. The games "journalists" tried to lead a boycott which failed in the most spectacular fashion, so it's no surprise that they did not nominate Hogwarts Legacy out of pride.
How much of that is because the Xbox doesn't have much else to offer vs. people actually liking the game? For such meager offerings, 8th place is actually not good. Not to mention, concurrent player count on Starfield fell below that of Skyrim on Steam.
How about simply not explicitly advertising high profile games that consumers don't necessarily need an Xbox console? When you're out there telling consumers "Hey, remember this upcoming big release? Well, you can play it on Xbox and PC!", how do you think that will affect console sales?
"On Friday, November 10, 2023, MW3’s launch day, the Call of Duty HQ reached a peak of 177,881 concurrent players on Steam. That’s down 25.4% from MW2’s launch day peak"
"Modern Warfare 3 Steam reviews sit at ‘mostly negative’ with just 31% of its user reviews offering a positive outlook at the time of writing."

You're confusing market cap with liquidity.
@Foxtrot "Because you know…Hollywood"
You missed the opportunity to say "It's Hollywood, baby." :P
They get away with it because the consumers keep giving them money. They're not going to give massive discounts unless people practice more stringent buying discipline to force their hand.
"I can´t wait to play BG3 on my SX!"
Considering how much time you dedicate on this site (and who knows how long on others), yeah... I'm pressing X to doubt on this one.
