Right now it's 1v1, but I hope to add a single player mode at some point, and multiple players as well. I want to get the core 1v1 asymmetric mode perfect first.
As I said in another comment, Early-Access is not for everybody, but you can watch some streams and see how solid and nice the community is, and how deep the game is already, and that might tip you over the edge. Even if I never updated it again, there are hundreds of hours of gameplay in there already, if you take a liking to the core mechanics.
Yeah, it's going to be hard to mod the missions and characters, but making new maps will be relatively easy.
You can, it's in early-access open paid beta: http://spyparty.com (or maybe you'll win a copy here!)
I wrote a thing about deductivity in SpyParty a while back: http://www.spyparty.com/201...
Wasn't sure how to say that..."axes of diversity"? I dunno.
Early-Access is definitely not for everybody. It's still pretty rough, but the core game is there and if you don't mind the construction noises it is worth it (in my totally unbiased opinion, of course :).
The cool thing about putting it on tablets is it means people can play in the same room, which is the best. Also, WiiU can do this, so it's interesting for SpyParty.
Sorry! It takes a long time to make something perfect. We have 10 more new characters to make (really 12 because the new art waiter and security guard), and then we have to beautify all the maps and make more. Not to mention all the new features. Yikes.
Yeah, the cool thing about SpyParty's design is that it reverses the usual, so I don't have to make the AI perfectly human, because they humans will emulate the imperfect AI. I just need make sure it's always possible to emulate, and then I can improve the quality of the NPCs as I can, but it's not game breaking if I can't.
Scroll down. :)
I hope so! The current beta players stream every day, you can follow http://twitter.com/spyparty... to get twitter notifications, or follow http://twitch.tv/spyparty to see when I stream. Other daily SpyParty streamers are http://twitch.tv/drawnonwar... and
Sad, but true.
Thanks, I've got some more ideas in this direction too. Twitch was totally into it when I made that, and I'll probably share the code with other indies.
Yeah, although given recent history, it's not clear if it's better to be hauled off by security personal or have it end quickly! :/
I liked Spore too, at least parts of it. The creature editor was magical. I just wished we'd been able to make the game deeper and more responsive to what the player was making in the editors.
Thanks! We're trying to get a full map and all 10 new art characters in an playable by PAX West. Only a month and a half left!
I'm always glad to hear about people who haven't heard about SpyParty yet...it means I haven't exhausted the population of the world even though it's been in development since the Pleistocene.
I think there is influence, it's just slow to happen, both due to how long it takes to make an AAA game, and also how conservative they have to be because the budgets are so big.
It's definitely not for everybody in its current state!
