But I will say, you've opened my eyes a little more than my initial thought on this subject, and that's a good thing. Platforming realistically makes its way into almost every genre and game released these days. My original idea with this statement was around the very 3D character driven mascot platformer that were prevalent in the PS1/N64 and PS2/GameCube era. Knack, Sly, Yooka-Laylee, Mario, and Sonic are obvious examples of these games, but I never really thought of PoP2008 as a pl...
As someone who has never been a huge fan of the Mario games, I am sure it will perform well. Most Mario games do, but Nintendo is the exception and by and large the industry as a whole has been taking less risk on these style games. Ratchet and Clank surprised everyone, including Sony and Insomniac, Yooka-Laylee had very mixed reviews, and I'd wonder what the sales looked like on that title. If we actually start to get yearly high profile 3D platformers outside of the Nintendo ecosystem, ...
Clarification is everything I guess. I was specifically speaking outside of Nintendo, which is where a good part of the games you listed came out. Some of these games straddle the genres in ways where they have elements of the genre but are more superceded by other gameplay elements. In the episode I do go into this exact thought. I played most of the games you listed aside from the Wii titles, as o was not a fan of the Wii as a whole. I did play and love Epic Mickey 1 and 2, PoP 2008 is my f...
I'd disagree that they've always been present. Definitely the bulk of the PS360 days they were virtually nonexistent. Ratchet and Clank being the only one that stuck around, though the shooting focus got bigger and bigger with each entry. I guess what I mean with this, is the return of them in the AAA space in a meaningful way. It's been a while since they've got the limelight like they have this year. Back in 2013 Knack and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time had them going big, but ...
That's definitely one of the biggest needs.
I disagree, but that's because I'm more invested in the Playstation eco-system (trophies, cross-play), and the Switch is just too big to be comfortably considered a handheld that I want to take with me. Personal opinion, but I'd like to see Sony try again with a similar form-factor and just support it longer.
I was surprised as well. With how long Salt & Sanctuary and Axiom Verge took, I was worried this would take forever as well.
@Naruga You just have negative opinions on every post you land on huh? The game looks great, the art looks great. I'd love to see the "new far better one" that you brag so much about being able to make. Please share with us. Lend some credence to your big statements.
I played it at PSX as well. It felt perfect! It's crazy they were able to retain the general feel of the originals while making it feel right on an analog stick.
You're not realizing what we are saying. There should not be trophies that by nature of the game's servers being shut off, are no longer even possible to get. As a trophy hunter who likes a challenge, I don't mind a trophy being difficult to achieve. It's when the trophy becomes a hassle because you are unable to achieve the trophy, for some reason out of your control, that gets ridiculous. Games like Destiny, where the game is inherently an online experience is a difference, ...
That screenshot is dope right? I'm stoked man, been waiting for this since they acquired the rights and put out DS2 remaster.
I agree with what you're saying. This game is basically World at War on a new gen of consoles. While some may not have liked Infinite Warfare it was atleast in the campaign department, a departure from the norm for them. This seems like steps back, and it's not been a decade since gaming has seen a WWII shooter, as the Sniper games and other series have been visiting it regularly. I'm just disappointed with what we've seen, and I'll never play another WWII shooter, and st...
I'm assuming we see another box with external power supply, and probably similar size to the launch Xbox One. We'll see. The launch Xbone was obviously bigger than it needed to be, definitely with that power supply outside of the box.
I figured I'd see more people on here stating the same regarding the price. I see this as a $599 machine. $549 if they're ballsy. Odd that so many people think it'll be $499, and even more people think the Pro will stay at $399. Once the Scorpio releases, PS will drop the Pro in price if the Scorpio really is $499. We'll see.
I've thought it was a bad move since they announced. It benefits me as I got to play Quantum Break and Gears (even though Gears wasn't very good).
Agreed. Uncharted has always had boundary pushing character models and graphics, at the time of release they are always seen as most realistic models to date, but they are always heavily stylized. The Last of Us 2 has me curious on how they will design the character models and world. The teaser looks to be going to realistic, pulling the stylized more out to possibly the world instead of the characters.
Man, I think about 2008 PoP all the time, and just hope for a sequel. I doubt we will ever get one but that art style with this generations hardware would be so beautiful.
A new handheld from Sony is something I really want, but it just doesn't seem likely. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and we see something this year, but I'm keeping my expectations down, and maybe I'll be surprised.
@SaveFerris I sure hope he is. He was intimately involved with the PS4 Pro but maybe that's because it was an extension of the base platform that he had built with the PS4. Time will tell, that's for sure.
Not saying you aren't making good points. You are, I just stand at a different perspective than you on it. Not a better or worse perspective IMO, just a different one. I respect every bit of what you are saying, but I also think there are viewpoints to say that the genre isn't thriving in this day and age compared to what it was. I don't consider that to be discrediting the genre or any games in it. That's where I'll leave it.
