It's not desperate. If its successful for xbox, Sony could follow suit and put out more MP focused games and form their own service. Afterall, Sony did implement the xbox mandatory service for MP, amongst other things. Like any business, they will go where they think the money is.
Yes they do If game pass is successful, they can be positively affected by going in the same direction to make money. Sony and nintendo will have a problem though, people are less likely to renew for single player games. Multiplayers have more hours in them, and more hours equals more reasons to renew a sub. In short, xbox's approach may be more future proof. Expect Sony to announce that they're going to have some more MP focus than usual in future.

I think it's a good move. I'd get a month for sea of thieves. If i like the game i'll go in for a second month, or buy the game eventually. If i waited for just a sale they would get less money. I think Microsoft are calling it right.

What's good for microsoft is also good for xbox gamers. Of course it's a business move, though xbox's strength is that they have a leader and strong team who see the benefit of doing things that also benefit the consumer. They've been working hard to appease xbox owners. The console is growing in strength.
They will know how many people subscribe to EA access, and how many people still buy EA games. They will still expect microsoft studio games to sell single copies. Plus let's face it, alot of people who buy subscriptions probably auto renew, whether they use the service or not.
Huge news. I said the service needs a big title to boost the service, but i didn't expect this so soon.
Alot of the games will have a multiplayer focus to heighten the chances of sub renewals. I think xbox is thinking less of investing in single player games than ever before.
Microsoft see a gaming subscription service as a big part of the windows 10 gaming future. This is the start of the process. They willl count game sales and subs into the overall scheme of things. They count the profits of the gaming division, and not just the games. This also hugely boosts the game pass as a sevice for not only new members, but current members too.

Halo 5 is one of my fav games this gen, and i haven't even played the sp. I wasn't even a halo fan before.
Yeah, i did play a bit and it seemed decent. It only cost a few quid. I just wanted to see if it was any use. Doubt i could play 1 and then 2, so i'll wait for 2 at some point.
Sony fanboys fail to grasp the concept of profitability. If sony think there's more money in the xbox model, they will do it. It's inevitable they will at some point anyway.
