I don't think so. That's what critics and gamers alike praised sony for. A free online subscription which is almost as good as Xbox live in terms of stability. Even jim sterling ate his words that PSN sucked but now he is so happy about it. And sony copying xbox live pay to play, they will lose a lot of consumers including me. I think they know better. But you are right. As long as people pay xbox live, MS will not stop.
"Optional" is the word that microsoft is missing here if they really implement it. I can just imagine playing a game when my internet goes down, in the middle of my play a message pops up, my game booted me out to the main menu and tells me, "There has been a connection Error, Please connect to the internet to play".
Well he maybe trolling but we know microsoft has more money that sony right?? So I don't see any reason that microsoft will not buy third party exclusives. They have done it in the past. Even if they don't steal exclusives, they will pay a lot to make a once exclusive game to be on their platform. look at final fantasy and GTA and metal gear and devil may cry
I don't think another FPS will really help. Can developers do something more thoughtful than shooting? There are a lot of genre's out there. 3D platforming, beat em up, hack and slash. JRPG and western RPG, fighting, racing, adventure indiana jones style and my favorite Survival horror. The last genuine survival horror I can think of on consoles are deadspace 1and2. There are some on PC like amnesia but it still not enough compared to shooters. So respawn entertainment will of course ...

Deep Down!! or the "Survival Horror Genre" should make a comeback and im sure many people will be happy about it. They have been absent for too long and FPS dominated this gen so much. Another great genre that should also reign supreme are JRPGs. We have blockbuster western rpgs like skyrim, mass effect, dragon age and fallout but there isnt too much good JRPGs. there are of course good ones but not that many compared to PS2 era where almost half of my game are JRPGs, suikoden serie...

Me and the majority here says "NO". Tomb raider is good so is God of war ascension. Its a prequel!! and the beginning of the series. Your expecting it to be as big as God of war 3? part 3 is the climax of God of war where ascension is picking up steam for the series. Its a "less angry" kratos story driven.
