What's funny is that if you think back like three years ago, you would never think that Nintendo would be able to turn their business around. I remember when people thought they were on their deathbed. How wrong they were. I gotta admit though. I was in that group too. I'm really surprised at how much they've changed their standing. And in one generation too. Congrats Nintendo.
The PS3 isn't dying, but they haven't done themselves many favors with the amount of exclusives they've lost. They still have a damn good first party though, especially with Insomniac and Sucker Punch. The Sly games are a bit underrated, IMO, and Infamous has potential.
I really like the idea of community games. Allowing people to make games on their free time is a good way to get aspiring game developers going, but most of what I've played aren't too good.
The XNE menu that pops up when you're playing games (the new blades) are hideous as hell. Could they just redesign that?
I nominate Legendary...
Seriously...
Wow, I never heard One Winged Angel by the orchestra before. That was great. I've attached for the rest.
I also think David Jaffe is somewhat right, but I am torn. I missed the "GTA-ness" that was missing in GTA IV, but when the story picked up and was at its best, they delivered on a crime story better as good as I could hope for from a game.
I wish it wasn't so melodramatic, and I wish the game didn't take itself so seriously at times, but...I guess I just have mixed feelings about how I walked away from GTA 4 after the end credits.
Oh yeah, good catch. I would kill for an Escape from NY game.
Also, it's kind of out of left field, but The Orphanage would make a great horror game.
I have a feeling Killzone 2 is going to disappoint no matter what. We've been seeing and hearing about this game for how long now? I think publishers should keep the lid shut on a game if people have to wait like 4 years to actually play the thing. I get the sense of "This should already be out by now, what's taking so long."
It's never a reassuring feeling.
Wow, yeah seriously, that's all that needs to be said.
Well the auto-heal isn't very fast in some games. In some games, the enemy AI pounces and you're screwed. When the screen starts to blur and turn red it's almost like saying "Yeah, you're f*cked."
I like it most when it's like that and you don't heal too quickly.
The combos thing is still true to simple controls. If you played the Mirror's Edge demo, you only use a few buttons but there are sick combos available. You can wall run, turn, and jump to another...
Are there enough star wars fans who don't play WoW to start a community of its own on Star Wars that could make WoW players shift? If it requires that the majority of WoW players decide to join TOR in order for it to take off then it doesn't stand a chance. If it grows its own community first and then WoW people migrate, then it could be huge.
Well he's angry, but he isn't bashing either side. He's saying they're both acting foolishly and we should really be getting past this.
From the article:
"These console allegiances are a mockery to what we all should believe in and stand for: that games are one of the most innovative forms of entertainment, and such thrilling experiences can be found on any platform from any developer talented enough to design wonderful games like Fable II, LittleBigPlanet, and ...
College is important for those who don't know exactly how or what they want to do. I think for all of the people listed, they already had the necessary talents to be great designers. Sure they learned more as they worked in the field, but they definitely had a clear goal of being game designers.
I actually just heard about that book not too long ago on Jon Stewart I think. I might have to check it out.
This looks like a great game and I cannot wait to see how it turns out. There was some good info in this interview that makes me appreciate all the work that was put into the game.
The terrain deformation is an awesome idea. If I can find this used somewhere I think I may pick it up. Though, I admit, a little disappointed in the fact that the story isn't all there. I really liked the ideas it had. Oh well, I guess that's nothing new :-P
I think the Linkin Park will be fun in the sense that it has a lot of high-pitched screams and will be tiring for any hardcore singer.
Awesome podcast. Probably one of the most informative and unbiased views Ive seen thus far. Keep on rocking!
Definitely wish these guys luck. I'm sure it's gotta be hard to start a game studio but they definitely have experience. I wonder if they at all worked on System Shock when they were at Irrational...?
