I have 3 demon's plats and the 2 dark plats and I can tell you, apart from backstab lag kills, every single one of my deaths was because I did something stupid and reckless, or wasn't paying enough attention.
That's the beauty of this game. If you die, it's your fault so instead of kicking and screaming like a child you need to actually analyse your death and determine what you did wrong.

I don't know why everyone hates on DS2 so much. So the world isn't as connected as the previous games, but the awesome combat is still there with a huge world to play in.

The fact is the game is being reviewed harshly. For some reason reviewers just seem the need to grade Sony exclusives against a higher standard. The double starndars against other games in the same genre is so blatant and pathetic.
