It's not really focusing 100% on survival, but trust me - you'll really want to save every last bullet. I can't tell you how many times I found myself without any ammo, and had to constantly dodge the mutants and look for bullets.
It's super important to search every body, nook and cranny. So, in a way, yeah, I'd classify it as survival.
If you can, definitely go for the Redux collection. 2033 Redux is miles better than the original, and Last Light Redux also comes packed with all DLC packs, which include a lot of new missions which are worth playing. Some are even story-based, and feature characters from the campaign.
Don't beat yourself up about it. Just let the fanboys continue sucking this guy off. It was bad enough BEFORE Konami went full-asshole on him.
