Nice, not really an answer tho.
But to play along, they might test an old build if they only need to test the servers and some of the features in a larger scale environment. Also, they might not want to give away too much of how the final game might look so as not to dilute the impact it has when the final product comes out.
There could be a number of reasons, outdated could mean a month old build to get through Sony's quality control and regulations...

Has ND ever stated how old this build of the UC3 beta is? Just wondering.
And for those of you who work in the gaming industry, how much can graphics inprove over the span of say 4 to 5 months given a talented group of developers?

cob - I completely agree with you, the issue they will bring up is that they are judging the multiplayer UC3 beta vs. the multiplayer UC2 beta.
I was in both betas and played UC2 extensively, and I can tell you that without a doubt there are significant improvements. The graphics have gotten slightly better, but the gameplay has expanded, and the levels are massive by UC2's standards.

Overall, I think the game is very good. I still dislike the melee in the game, always felt a bit sluggish IMHO. Can’t wait to get home this afternoon and get on this for a few more hours, hit me up if your are on PSN – Tashito.

Some of you really need to get some sense, since the BETA began many of you here said the purpose of a beta is so YOU can test the game, that is incorrect. The main purpose of a beta is for the DEVELOPERS to see what will happen with increased loads on servers, game engines, basically improving the product. A BETA test is not a trial of a game.

This game looks like it might be very inadequate, very unresponsive. However, it could be that it is very early in development, more polish might be in the works.

You are correct man, I sit up at night all the time thinking how much better my life would be if I could play all my games in 1080p or above.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I played Crysis 2, and I realized that I wasn't getting the full experience.

@ Septic System - I think Dirty is saying that the PS3 version was made to look worst because of the 360 version.
So you are probably correct that BC2 looked like crap on both, but I think he is saying that the 360 version will probably not hole back the PS3 version this time around.
I might be wrong about my assertion of what Dirty said, but you seemed a bit tender about this whole situation, so I wanted to clarify if I could. ;-)
