To be fair, I think it's important to note that Jason Rubin had very little, if any, effect on the bankruptcy at THQ. He joined the company when the wheels were already in motion. The delays were probably the result of ownership issues that had yet to be resolved by the courts after the company declared bankruptcy. As such, the on-going legal issues were probably to blame for the delays while those issues were ironed out.
In any case, the article isn't meant to assig...
I'm not saying that I like it. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I haven't played a Call of Duty game since MW2 exactly for the reasons you've outlined.
But old habits die hard, and it's hard to scrap a core design philosophy and start completely from scratch. At this point that would take new console hardware in order to offer up the opportunity to publishers and developers to reinvent themselves. Plus the two points that allow CoD to continue ...
To be fair, there are a lot of things that Treyarch improved and added in the multiplayer end of Call of Duty. The campaign also features branching paths and different endings based on actions taken. It's not much I'll admit, but it is a start.
What kills the deal is the need (especially if you want to install several games) to buy a larger memory card. A 32 GB is 80 bucks! I mean the bundle is phenomenal, but the damn memory cards are the bottleneck for me right now. Well....that and the lack of software for it that really catches my eye, though this bundle gives me a couple of games that I am interested in.
Holy macaroni!
I wish I didn't already own a good deal of the games that are on these lists.
Well it's not even a question of creativity. I think you need indie games as a means of exploring ideas that big publishers are too scared to take a financial risk on. There have been tons of ideas within the last two or three years in the indie scene that have gone on to be aped by bigger retail titles.
In fact, I'm surprised that the narrative style of Bastion hasn't shown up in more games since it came out.
Well considering that that game came out so long ago, I would be surprised if they accurately modeled hit reactions. By all accounts though, you are correct.
Still, that game almost proves my point since riding a horse in that game was merely a conveyance in order to get to the next colossus. Indeed, the real crux of that game was climbing up giants and discerning the puzzle of ascending so that you could kill them.
Agreed, but that game is a huge exception rather than the rule. Or perhaps general tendency in this case.
Argh! I know! Chase sequences on horses are the worst. Though there are some notable exceptions, but they are few and far between.
Fun game!
Rainbow Moon and Sound Shapes are definitely on my radar!
Hooray! Another exciting DS&A ep!
I think you mean 'story' DLC since Arkham City is only a single-player game. Don't worry, my initial draft of this for PSLS used 'single-player DLC'. Had to do a find replace to change it!
It looks like a cross between a vagina, a monster from Dead Space, and Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. So...weird!
On a different note, this game looks interesting!
Yeah, but the amount of money that that DLC would have made for THQ would've been equivalent to a drop in the bucket, and more than likely would've prolonged the inevitable. Especially when you consider how much money the UDraw tablet ended up costing THQ.
