i save on chapter 7. 10 an 14. people have preference where they save cuz game is difficult on hardcore an they will save before what they consider 2 be most challenging.
lots like to save before going on elevator ride with necro morphs.
also, when i start hardcore i save before you get stasis cuz i had WEIRD probs with gameplay an cause death to me cause mouse lag... you gotta hit necromorph with stasis or you get kill automatically!
