FFXIII is probably at least another year away from being released. Whatever Square Enix is planning, they are aware that announcing that title for Xbox 360 would put another nail in Sony's coffin so to speak, which they're not willing or inclined to do at this point. It would be in Square Enix's overwhelmingly best financial interest to release FFXIII for both systems rather than to sever itself arbitrarily from 360's huge market share. "Eh... We just didn't feel like selling another ...

Sony marketed the PS3 as a home media center that happened to play games. Only this week did they begin to reconceptualize it as a games machine. Check out the article on Sony's "astounding" new plan to save the PS3. Presenting it primarily as a games system now is a CHANGE from their original idea.

The writing is on the wall with this one. Square Enix wanting to expand into the Western hemisphere will naturally entail an adoption of the overwhelming leading next-gen console in those combined markets, 360.

Maybe I'll play it on 360 next year. Who would want to say no to such a huge market segment? PS3 exclusive just plain makes no sense from a business perspective.

The article is very insulting to Sony. Saying you have a "nurturing" instinct is for Sony very maternal and makes it sounds like Sony is a wounded bird that needs love and attention, cause it can't fly on its own.

No one really knows much about FF13 or FF13 Versus. For the past 6 years, FF has basically been a cash cow that Square keeps milking rather than innovating or making anything inspiring. They haven't put out a title worth remembering since FF10. FF12 was a narrative disaster and FF13 is looking to be as much style-over-substance as its predecessor. The series isn't what it once was.

A broken Xbox is a real shame because there are so many games you could otherwise be playing if it worked.

The PS3 versions are always inferior. This is going to be a major problem when GTA4 gets released. Anyone not owning a next gen system then will be faced with the question of paying $550 (or $650 after the "temporary" price cuts?) for a PS3 or paying $400 for the "better" and "more content" version of GTA4. It's silly that people overlook GTA4 as another coup for Xbox 360 when comparing systems next year; it's going to be another Microsoft blowout against Sony...

He must be drained from defending the indefensible for a whole year. The more the PS3 gets ravaged by 360 in the biggest world market (United States!), the more pressure will be on developers to go multiplatform or incur inevitable heavy losses. The more developers go multiplatform, the less incentive there is to buy a cinder bloc... er, Playstation 3, and the more it becomes marginalized, and the cycle goes on and on. Anyone want to shell out $650 to play Star Ocean 4? Didn't think so. ...

Interesting the way the quote is phrased,

"Lets be honest. There's only two major franchises that are talked about not appearing on our platform: Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid."

He doesn't say they're "not appearing." Rather, he says they're "talked about not appearing."

Konami's supposedly disappointed in poorer than projected PS3 sales. Square Enix tipped its hand briefly and hinted at a FF13 appearance in ...

Fair point. One thing that annoyed me about the Xbox 360 is that it cut short the original Xbox's lifespan prematurely. I didn't get an Xbox until Xmas 2004 and within months it was obsolete. I bought an Xbox as a gift for someone in early 2005 and a right afterwards, it was forgotten in favor of the 360 advent. I hope to not see another Xbox product until 2012. If my PS2 is still going strong until 2007, I don't see why it's unreasonable to get more than 5 years out of the 360.

If the PS3 is still Sony's prime offering from now until 2016, wouldn't it pale behind whatever Nintendo or Microsoft throws out there in the meantime?

Double post by accident. (New to the format here)
Sorry!

Yes, I read your post. My comment was aimed only at the narrow idea that the Xbox 360 is currently only appealing to last-gen Xbox owners. As I said in the first line of my response, "I'm only going to comment on the idea that 360 appeals to the Xbox 'base.'"

This only addressed that singular point, which you raised with, "Could it be that you really didn't pick up much new owners? Selling to the xbox 1 base? Hmmmm?" and "What I'm trying to tell you is ...

Does anyone have hard numbers on the market size of US, JP, and EU? Thanks.

I'm only going to comment on the idea that 360 appeals to the Xbox "base." I'm not sure that's entirely true. I was a diehard PS2 fan last generation as were most of my friends. But I only know one single person who owns a PS3 (he owns all three consoles) and among the PS2 "base," we're all more enthused about Xbox 360. Don't get me wrong, I really hoped Sony would put out a great console that would serve me as well as the PS2 has (hundreds of hours on that thing from ...

I'd love to see Suikoden on Xbox 360. Unlikely because Japan is its target market, but I really don't want to shell out another $600 for a console package when simply porting Suiko to 360 would save me the expense.

The PS2 was their direct competition and if they're still bashing it, then there's a problem as well.

The whole point of 360 is to have a presumably "elite" system at a much better price. By creating an explicit "elite" version, it makes it seem as though the original Xbox 360 is "not elite" which is not the type of theme I would want out there. Then you figure people owning 360 will feel they have an inferior product and consumers will fear that 360 is not a safe investment because some software will eventually come out that requires Elite to function optimall...

I love what Xbox 360 has going for it but this comment was unnecessary. Microsoft doesn't need to be bashing the Wii or trying to distinguish it as a toy for youngsters. Usually Microsoft's publicity is right on target, but they fumbled this one big time. You don't insult a popular system that many people own and love, especially when isn't even directly cutting into your market share! A lot of people own 360 and Wii. There's only one competitor out there that MS should bash from a marke...
