Actually it's everything between 720p and 2160p. But the norm is still 1080/900 depending on console. Everything above that is a bonus...one you have to pay good money for

You might be right :) but then again, this is the first time Sony and Microsoft has made these half steps. Had we not seen their new consoles for another 2-3 years, the leap would undoubtedly seem more dramatic :) maybe that's why?

You will never ever get 60fps on all console titles. If you think so, you'll be sorely disappointed! Developers will always target 30fps on console, for some titles, because that's simly a neccesary sacrifice needed to keep up with the immense power of top tier gaming rigs. And it's ok. Of course developers and console manufacturers want to show what their machines can do. The visual presentation has a lot more impact on the customer than fps. I certainly wouldn't wanna scale...
Diminishing returns isn't a new term? Anyway, in some respects I believe it applies to PC too. Where PC is way ahead, is on the cpu front. Being able to hit 60 or 120 fps is far beyond the reach of the jaguar cores, modefied or not. But visually, console graphics have become so good, especially on the mid-cycle upgrades, that you have to be nerds like us to really appreciate it. I'm a Sony fanboy, but only because of exclusives (and trophies...lol). I won't go as far as to say that power doesn't matter, but I will say this; from this point on who gives a shit? When the next generation arrives, it's simply not gonna matter anymore. Not to me anyway.
