I have a launch 60 gig. I have never had any problems simply because I take good care of my things. I have always vacuumed and blown out the dust out of my ps3 every week. That alone will insure good ventilation as if not done will almost guarantee an overheated console. That just don't happen to Consoles it happeneds to pc's as well.
