McFudge, it's not like Micosoft isn't trying to rectify it. Sure, the electonics break, but thanks to MS, it doesn't mean there done for. You can just get a free new one. The only people losing anything out of this is Microsoft; not the gamer.
I like the Xbox 360, and my purchase was justified. For everything it is, the RROD isn't that bad. A week or so without a 360 and its back. The end; life goes on.
