Actually it's the PAL 60GB PS3's that can't play all PS2 games, the NA/JP 60giggers can play all PS2 games since they have both the CPU and the GPU unlike the PAL version which only has the PS2's GPU onboard.

No they did not! I still have my Launch NA 60gb PS3 box and nowhere does it advertise the other OS feature. My PS3 was one of the very first 400,000 PS3's that went on sale in late 2006 so if it wasn't advertised on the box back then it wouldn't be advertised anytime after.
