The irony of the situation is that you can't actually hire people or security services to 'protect' you from DDoS as essentially it's just a traffic jam of higher than normal traffic. Taking yourselves offline when you hit a specific threshold of connections _is_ essentially protecting yourself from DDoS - you stop those connections from backing up your database
