How microsoft turned a profit this gen with the 360 is a miracle(read xbox live gold) with the rrod fiasco.

Nobody is saying it is dead, they are saying it is dying. Same thing was said about the 3DS and truth is, it WAS actually dying.
Nintendo acknowledged their dire situation and dropped the price and released hard hitting games, or in short, they SAVED the 3DS.

You ARE in denial though. VITA is clearly NOT doing as well as SONY planned and simply by admitting that one has to admit it needs saving. Pure and simple.
The media is not saying it is dead, after all you can't save what is dead now can you? Truth is however, it is or at least was headed to failure before Gamescon.
If the tides change for VITA only now because of the new games then you cannot say it was going to be fine all along because clearly it needed a boost.

They have to keep swinging until they make a hit. Microsoft are resting on their laurels because they have a billion dollar a year maker in xbox live gold fees and purchases and Kinect which for some reason people have bought 20 million of @ $150 each.
They also have the highest selling exclusive IP not found on a nintendo console this gen. . .Halo.
Sure SONY have GT, but at over 60 million and 5 years a pop, it has its drawbacks.
Except Activision itself may also be up for sale.
