Overall, the series has been one of the more underappreciated. Most entries were great, but they did have a couple of misses along the way. Some went the route of wide-scale strategy and some were more focused on you as being one officer, delving into the RPG spectrum.
If you've never played any of these and you enjoy strategy games, I'd definitely recommend it. Once the game is released, you'll likely see some long-time fans find something to complain about, but ...

The music in the teaser video is almost indistinguishable in style and mood to FF Tactics, and crystals/Zodiac stones were also important plot pieces.
I have had it happen once where my guy was slightly offside and it wasn't called. I checked the replay multiple times to be sure.
Also have had the other way of having my guy perfectly in line with the last defender and got called offsides.

It's made by the same company that does the Disgaea series and set in the same story world/setting, so naturally one would think "oh, another Disgaea game."
But the fact is that the developers are taking a new angle on a type of gameplay they've never tried before, hence it won't "play the same" as you stated it likely would.
I have to agree with ExgamerLegends that the notion that this game is "mature" or games are "growing up" because there's the inclusion of an option to be gay is just as narrow-minded as those who say that said option is strictly forbidden.

Yes to the Dark Cloud series!! The games did not get the love they deserved, especially the 2nd. In what other game can you take pictures of 3 different things and combine them for an invention, and then play golf in the dungeon level you just completed?
