I think the journalists got this backwards. It's not pilots acting like their playing a video game, it's that video games have become realistic enough to portray the video you just saw.
Think about this. In the AC-130 level of CoD4, if you didn't have the game telling you that all the guys are bad guys then how do you decide who to fire on? Do you just wait until someone shoots a surface to air missile at you? By then it's too late.
The rules of engagement are simple...
I actually don't know now. I just assumed they were referring to their own game, but I went and looked up the title. It's "Battlefield 2: Modern Combat" versus "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare."
Interesting.
You all realize that "Modern Warfare" is referring to "Battlefield 2: Modern Warfare." It's a game on the Xbox 360 that came out well before "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare"
Or maybe I'm wrong? It's been years since I've played that game. Can anyone else back me up on that?
And this is why PS3 players are flocking to MAG. I played MAG for a while the other day, then went back to MW2 to play with some friends. Sometime between getting killed 5 times in a row by a chopper gunner and the warning siren for a nuke strike I decided I don't like MW2 anymore.
I still love COD4 though. MW2 is just too much. At least in MAG I feel like I'm in control of my own destiny. When I get killed it usually seems reasonable. Not so in MW2. Too much bombing, not enough...
What's with all the gimmicks in MW2? Heartbeat sensors and sentry guns? I know it's supposed to be MODERN warfare, but that stuff is future warfare. I know it's just a video game, but I liked how COD4 was grounded in reality. Now it seems like they're trying to throw in all these different ideas from a bunch of different FPSs and, to me anyway, it's starting to get messy. I'm sure I'll buy it and play it a lot, but I was hoping they'd try to keep things intense without resorting to things you...
The thing I wish GG did more with Killzone is explain the background more. I read through that fairly long article that explains the whole background, and it's actually really interesting.
To be honest I really hope the next Killzone has you play as the Helghast against the ISA in the wars that happened previous to the current Killzone franchise, back when the Helghast were being oppressed by the ISA.
I play wow a little bit, and I have a life, but I would do something like that just for the fun of it. You're taking part in something rare and unique. And of course Athene was enjoying it. Think about how awesome he must have felt when 200 people would jump on his command.
5 or 6 years? When's the last time any media tech has lasted you more than 5 years? Cell phones, laptops, cameras... I consider myself lucky if I can keep those around for more than 4 years! I will say the exceptions seem to be TVs and game consoles. So why not quit trying to game-plan when you're going to buy a game console? All 3 available consoles will provide you with hours and hours of entertainment for years to come. I paid $600 for my PS3 and I would do it again because I get a lot of ...
I agree. In fact I'm willing to bet they aren't even real NVGs. It probably is just a hole you look through with some green LEDs on the end that shine at whatever you're looking at, kinda like taping a flashlight with a green lens to your forehead. That way you look through your little tube and see everything in green, but it's not true night vision.
I fly for the Army, so we use real NVGs all the time, and there's a lot more going on in there then some might think. Each pair cos...
Don't worry Mooey, I know exactly what you're talking about. I guess it comes with years of statistics and probability classes in college.
These other people just aren't smart enough to figure out that each game has a "true" average score, and while we'll never know exactly what it is we can get an idea by using the average (metascore) of averages (review scores.)
I suppose they have no concept of outliers either, which I think metacritic does a terrible j...
First off I don't really think the article is related to Hulu not playing on the PS3. The article is talking about marketing.
But even so, if it is true then I think we have a right to be upset. Hulu is supposed to be free to everyone. It's browser based. The PS3 has a browser, therefore should be able to access the content. It would be like making Facebook available on Internet Explorer but not on Firefox.
Sony shouldn't have to "strike deals" for servic...
Blinded by hatred? Maybe.
It's a global economy. Nothing is "Made in America" anymore. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 is made in some plant in China. Car companies? If they had made quality cars to begin with this wouldn't be an issue. There's a Hyundai plant near me, and I'm sure those Americans are happy to have a job and would recommend buying a Hyundai to any of their friends. Toyota supplies lots of jobs to Americans at their truck plant in Texas or wherever it is. BMW gives jobs to people ...
Aside from the PSP and PS2? Not to mention TVs, blu-ray players, audio receivers, car stereos, walkmen, etc.
Edit: I might get what you're saying now. But PS3s definitely aren't all the same. My launch 60g looks a lot different inside then the newest models.
It sure was
Nice choices!
I loved goldeneye but never really got into perfect dark. You all are absolutely right, perfect dark was basically goldeneye... except with less interesting characters and a storyline I never even bothered to understand.
So, Darkride, you have my support. I'm also a big FPS fan but I never like perfect dark. So sue me.
Yeah, I guess a business degree would make more sense here. So would a marketing degree. Which really highlights why companies have an entire payroll of people working towards an objective, as opposed to one guy blabbing about how he could single handedly save a company from all their "mistakes."
Why is it that so many people seem to think they know how to run a consumer electronics company? I'm willing to bet the majority don't have a degree in economics, nor do they have any experience with marketing a product. So why even stick their nose in this? Why write articles about something they don't understand? If they really did know how to "save" Sony (which doesn't need saving) then why aren't they driving to work in their fancy car, wearing a suit and tie?

I disagree. I can guarantee that those pilots didn't feel like they were in a video game.
It's easy to judge in hind sight, but think about what those guys are doing. They aren't just staring at a youtube video where they can rewind, pause, zoom in. They're flying an aircraft, coordinating on radios, oh... and trying not to get shot down.
As a pilot, how many times will you allow yourself to get shot at before you start getting serious about defending your own life....
