They can still use PSN, they found out how to use firmware 2.70 back when they wanted to run the "OtherOS" feature after it was patched, now about every hacker on the planet with a PS3 is going to want that bypass.
All in all, playing games on PSN without being on current firmware is absolutely possible.
there has been a way, since about a year ago, to get past the restrictions of new firmware and still sign into PSN.
Some genius hackers out there found a way to do this to use the "OtherOS" feature after it was removed, now it allows them to continue in their pirating.

the pirates are probably scared sh!tless at the moment, with all these USB-Hack devices out and now blocked (kinda), I think sony will be finding and banning/force updating, all ps3's behind a certain firmware updates, if you're still running off 2.70 and signing onto PSN then there has got to be a way to find out who you are and fix it, not a doubt in my mind.
Who the hell in their right mind would freak out over getting some extra time to go grab some snacks, or throw a DiGiorno in the oven and grab a drink? Haha, If firmware updates took more than 28 minutes (Pizza Time) then we would have something to complain about.

Have you never played halo 2? super bouncing.... glitching vehicles up walls and upside down. a bunch of glitches in halo 2. so in MW2 you can get in a rock on fuel. skip the damn map or back out. they fixed most everything, and who cares if people hack their accounts, stay legit and level naturally and forget the f***sticks who hack. Halo is boring... jump and shoot... maybe throw a grenade here and there. good god i could go on for hours about why MW2 is better than halo 3 and reach. <--...
