Well said. The only reason why people are calling it a rmid-gen upgrade is to downplay how big of a leap it really is.
When you look at the raw power of this thing and the HDMI future proofing they added, how can it not be considered a new gen?
As you said, MS has changed what "generation" means.
Playing games on a weaker system does not mean a system is not next gen. I don't know why some people cannot grasp this.
because it checks off every box except for one to be called a next gen system. They only box it doesn't check is its games can be played on a lesser version. It is a new gen.
MS isn't going by the traditional generation label anymore, they've said as much. But for our purposes, it is.

That is not the be-all-end-all of what defines a next gen system. It's bound by code, but not by ability. The scorpio will do things that the x1 and s cannot do, so it is a new gen. It is vastly more powerful than those as well.
Just because the same game can be played on a less powerful system, that doesn't mean the more powerful one is mid gen. Just because MS is telling developers it can't leave out the x1, doesn't negate how big of a leap the scorpio is....

I'm in the same boat. I'm wanting to upgrade to 4k, but now I'm not sure if I should wait or not. Getting a placeholder set isn't an option for me.
They have some great exclusives, and will be the best place for 3rd party. Need to work on your damage control....
