Microsoft needs a new system because the sales are going down, the system is faulty and the cheaper they make it the more it hurts the company because they have to offer a warranty on it. Square made the decision...Sony has to live with it. Even if Sony owns some stock in Square that doesn't make them money unless they sell their stock interests. I'm sure Sony would have made a lot more money had the game stayed exclusive because MGS 4 increased sales for the PS3 on such a dramatic level that potential hardware coup is gone now.
If Sony markets LBP (and Sony never markets much) I agree it will boost sales because it is a game that will appeal to an entirely new demographic for the PS3 - the entire family. It's a four player simultaneous platformer where mom and dad can spend an evening helping the two kids build a level.
Opportunity is there.

I'll wait for reviews. But after playing the demo I know what to expect...everybody is going to complain about the camera, but if they had total control of the camera that would eliminate the element of surprise and tension around movement.
I would much rather have a disc copy also, so I might skip the purchase in protest because trading old games in helps me down the road.
