They aren't stupid, Halo MCC is a massive title and giving it away for free would be alot of lost revenue.
Don't be fooled the only reason companies are pushing for digital only releases is so they can cut the middle man and have full price control. IE $60 games 2 years after release. I can recall EA accusing Valve of "devaluing" games by discounting them.
That doesn't count for EA. Piracy is also not an excuse for cutting content out of games to sell as DLC and add-ons. Especially when you consider that console centric games are afflicted with the same problem. It is pure greed. I am sorry.

EA* can only make terrible Sims games. At some point we have to realize that EA owns all these companies that ruin franchises.
That's because they actually develop the dlc after the game and not cut content from the game to sell later like EA.
